Biography

Tariq Parker, a recipient of the Jamaica Scholarship in 2009, recently graduated from the University of the West Indies in 2014 with an MB BS Honours degree with Distinction. He received Honours in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Medicine and Surgery, and received subject prizes in Internal Medicine and Surgery for best academic performance across the Caribbean. Tariq is currently a medical intern at the Spanish Town Hospital which provides health services to some of the most rapidly growing communities in Jamaica. While at UWI, he served as Vice President and Cultural Events and Activities Coordinator of his medical class while volunteering in the class' Peer Teaching Programme. Tariq currently provides volunteer medical services at community-based health events and is a part-time quiz coach at his alma mater, Wolmer's Boys School. For relaxation, Tariq enjoys dancing, listening to music and cooking. He has received awards in Kung Fu and also enjoys basketball and swimming. Tariq is passionate about Neuroscience and aspires to become a Neurosurgeon. He believes in the capacity of stem cell research to revolutionize the treatment of neurological disease and other medical disorders. He also desires to influence educational and public health sector reform in Jamaica.
