Global Impact Day is an opportunity for the Rhodes Trust Community and its partners to take part in a one day social impact hackathon, as well as volunteering, to help support local and global causes.
In Oxford, the Trust has connected with local charities and asked them to put forward challenges they are currently facing. On the day, staff, Scholars in Residence and alumni are invited to support selected charities by working in teams to generate innovative ideas and solutions that the charities can use to advance their causes. We are delighted to be collaborating with the University of Oxford to help extend the reach of this event and will be welcoming Alex Betts as a guest facilitator.
The teams will work on the projects for approximately three hours as below. Please register for the project you would like to support. All teams will be based in McCall MacBain Hall at Rhodes House. Lunch will be available from 12pm-1pm and is open to all those involved in the projects
1 2pm -1pm - Lunch. All attendees are welcome to enjoy a free lunch in Milner Hall before or after their group session. Please advise us of any dietary requirements before Tuesday 29th November.
1 pm - 4pm
Project 1: Jacari. Jacari provides free English language support to refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant children. They would like advice on how reconnect with and involve alumni with their charity and mission. Read more here.
Project 2: Oxford Gatehouse. The Gatehouse is an award-winning community drop-in centre. They would like support to develop their social media output, expand their donor pool and stand out to donors and increase their resilience as a charity. Read more here.
Project 3: Oxford Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre. Is a charity providing specialist support services to survivors of sexual violence in Oxfordshire. They would like advice on their re-branding project, fundraising, communication and university partnership. Read more here.
For each charity, team members will be supported to consider the challenge, map out possible solutions, work innovatively together and ultimately produce a short set of reccomendations which will be passed back to the organisations. Where possible, members of the charity will be in attendance to help provide further context behind the challenges they are facing.
