Schmidt Science Fellows - Global Meeting Series in Oxford

Over a two week period the inaugural class of Schmidt Science Fellows is coming together for the first stage of the Global Meeting Series, considering 'The Importance of Science to Leadership, and Leadership to Science'.

The initial visit will introduce the Schmidt Science Fellows programme and provide a foundation for the year ahead. The Fellows will participate in a series of courses and exercises focused on:

  • Cutting-edge scientific advances
  • Societal and scientific leadership
  • Socioeconomic and political literacy for scientists and engineers
  • Team management and collaboration
  • Personal network development

These courses and exercises will be led by world-renowned experts, faculty and facilitators at some of the United Kingdom’s top universities. The Fellows will also tour exciting and innovative laboratories in the UK.

The Schmidt Science Fellows Program was announced last year by the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Strategic Fund for Innovation, in partnership with the Rhodes Trust. It involves a long-term collaboration to create a tailored 11-14-month Post-Doc program across a number of world class universities. There are 14 Schmidt Science Fellows in this first year's intake, which is expected to increase in subsequent years.  Read the biographies of the first class.
