Biography
Ellen YI is currently a senior at Peking University majoring in International Political Economy. Ellen’s broad interests in China cover its foreign affairs and domestic politics. Her academic experience includes research on international strategic narratives on Chinese “Wolf-Warrior Diplomacy” and hallmarks of Chinese “anti-hegemonism” propagandistic rhetorics. She has worked at the Institute of International and Strategic Studies at Peking University. Her experience in towns nearby Wuhan when Covid-19 first emerged and spread inspired her to reflect on China’s grassroots governance in the public health emergency and motivated her to explore China’s state capacity further.
With the support of the Rhodes Scholarship, Ellen intends to study politics and comparative government at Oxford and further her academic pursuits on Chinese grassroots governance.
