Biography

Abdel was born in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, and grew up mostly in Ottawa, Canada. He graduated as valedictorian at McGill University with a First-Class Honours degree in Political Science and African Studies. He has a particular interest in international relations, African politics, human rights, and sustainable development. As a first-generation Canadian, a Pan-Africanist, and a global citizen, he is driven to build bridges of unity, empathy, and solidarity between various communities. Abdel currently works as a Junior Advisor for the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations and has previously worked for organizations such as the UNHCR Canada, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice of Ghana, and the House of Commons of Canada. He also serves as a World Economic Forum Global Shaper with the Montreal Hub and has volunteered extensively for various non-profits and youth-led community organizations. At Oxford, he intends to pursue an MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy.
