Biography
Varun Shankar is a DPhil candidate in Engineering Science as a Rhodes Scholar from Zambia. He is passionate about accelerating the transition to low-carbon mobility with a focus on reducing transport emissions and improving air quality. He is currently a Climate Fellow at the Oxford SDG Impact Lab in partnership with Neste, Extreme E, and Rosberg Philanthropies investigating the decarbonisation of the maritime sector with a case study of the St Helena ship. His previous experience includes conducting detailed life cycle assessments, net-zero roadmap design, battery supply chain evaluations, coastal blue carbon offsetting, and advancing climate resilient infrastructure with the World Bank and AFRY Management Consulting. Prior to Oxford, he completed an MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bath.
