Biography

Joshua drives priority projects for Global Growth at Schmidt Futures, a philanthropic initiative of Eric and Wendy Schmidt. Concurrent with this role, he serves as the regional lead for the International Strategy Forum Africa. Joshua co-convenes the Vaccine Safety and Confidence Building Working Group, and is a working group member of the G7 Global Partnership — Africa Biosecurity Signature Initiative. He writes for South Africa's Business Day and is the creator of The Africa Brief — a weekly briefing on news and trends shaping the African continent.

Joshua's policy experience includes time with the Global Economic Governance Programme at the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government, the Institute for African Alternatives in Cape Town, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Washington D.C.

He holds a Masters of Public Policy (with Distinction) and an MSc in African Studies from the University of Oxford where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar and achieved his Oxford Blues. Joshua also holds a Bachelor of Laws (with Distinction) and a Bachelor of Social Science (with Distinction in Political Studies) from the University of Cape Town.
