Sydney Whiting, from Lethbridge, Alberta, is completing her BA (Honours) in Political Science at the University of Lethbridge. She wrote her undergraduate honours thesis on the discursive functionality of sustainable development in corporate settings and has done applied research on rural social and immigration policy, populism, and student retention at the Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy. As an advocate for climate action and gender equality, Sydney served as the Canadian environmental representative to the Y7, the youth advisory group to the G7, in Tokyo, Japan; worked for the Collective Centre, a student organization committed to gender and sexual health advocacy; and co-founded the former Climate Hub of Southern Alberta. She currently volunteers for the Young Diplomats of Canada to support more young people in having a seat at the table in global politics.
