Shafaq Batool

Biography

Shafaq Batool graduated with an Honours BSc from the University of Calgary and an incoming student in the Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health at the University of Oxford. As a researcher in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Cumming School of Medicine, her work examines postoperative pain outcomes and sex-based disparities in health-care delivery using population-level data. Shafaq co-founded the Khairiyat Women’s Health Equity Network, launched the ongoing Indigenous Voices in Academia initiative, and is a member of the Canadian Women’s Heart Health Alliance. Building on her research in space-health neuroimaging, she serves as Chair of Communications for the Canadian Space Health Research Network. A 2025 3M National Student Fellow and member of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO’s Youth Advisory Group, Shafaq aims to bridge community voices, health research, and policy to advance women’s health as a future clinician-scientist.
