Biography

Josh recently graduated from James Cook University with a Bachelor of Marine Science and is now completing his honours in marine biology. His research uses genetic data to understand the distribution and dispersal of an Antarctic sea slug. He recently returned from the Denman marine voyage, where he collected genetic samples from the fastest-receding glacier in East Antarctica. At Oxford, he intends to pursue a DPhil in Earth Sciences, aiming to address critical knowledge gaps in phytoplankton, the foundation of marine ecosystems and global primary production. He hopes to bridge science and policy to contribute to effective environmental decision-making. Beyond his research, Josh has led the Marine Society, a student-led organisation that fosters community and engagement through social and educational events. He is also an advanced open water SCUBA diver and a keen film enthusiast.
