Heath Dimsey is a mathematics research student, keen science communicator, and ambassador for mathematics education. His research explores how mathematical models can be used to understand the complex patterns that emerge in nature. At Oxford, he hopes to study the MSc in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing and the MSc in Mathematical Sciences, further developing tools to address key challenges in conservation ecology and biology. Beyond his research, Heath is committed to equity in education and inspiring curiosity in science. He runs a volunteer tutoring program at a local public high school to help remove barriers to STEM participation and works with the Young Tassie Scientists program, delivering science outreach across regional Tasmania. A lifelong Tasmanian, Heath is deeply connected to the island’s natural beauty and community, which continue to shape both his values and his research interests. Outside of academia, he enjoys soccer, futsal, tennis and playing the clarinet.
