Biography

Samuel T. Crowe, Chesapeake, is a fourth-year at the University of Virginia, where he majors in Astronomy-Physics and History. He is the first undergraduate to lead an observing program with the James Webb Space Telescope, the premier astronomical observing facility in the world. The images from this observing program have been featured in international press by NASA, CNN, CBS, National Geographic, and Smithsonian Magazine, and have been viewed by over a billion people across the world. The work of Samuel and his collaborators on star formation and stellar ecology has led to the discovery of new star-forming regions and fundamental physical processes in the central regions of the Milky Way, as well as several publications. Samuel also has a deep interest in Roman history, particularly the dramatic collapse of the Roman Republic and rise of the Roman Empire. During his time at the University of Virginia, he has served as the President of the Astronomy Club and Vice President of the Forestry Club. Samuel is also fluent in Spanish, has backpacked across 21 countries spanning 5 continents, and enjoys bodybuilding, high-altitude hiking, and camping. At Oxford, he hopes to pursue a DPhil in Astrophysics.
