Biography

Paras B. Bassuk, Iowa City, is a student at the University of Iowa completing a B.S. in Psychology. A recipient of the University of Iowa’s top merit award for undergraduates, Paras has published developmental neuroscience research on interpersonal neural synchrony, conducts psycholinguistic research into the cognitive underpinnings of bias, and studied human rights and social movements in Argentina. Paras is a campus leader on LGBTQ+ issues and served a term as a constituency senator in undergraduate student government. They also serve on the Johnson County transgender advisory task force and the University of Iowa’s transgender inclusivity coalition. Paras is a jazz drummer, classical bassist, and bass guitarist in multiple ensembles and also pursues photography. At Oxford, they intend to pursue the MSc in Comparative Social Policy and MPhil in Socio-Legal Research.
