Lana Alabbasi

Biography

Lana Alabbasi is a senior physics undergraduate at King Abdulaziz University, with a passion for exploring the extremes of physical reality at the intersection of nuclear physics and astrophysics through the study of compact objects. Recently, as a LIGO summer research fellow at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), she investigated the impact of the nuclear equation of state on the remnants of binary neutron star mergers. She hopes to pursue a DPhil in Astrophysics at Oxford to further advance her research interests in nuclear astrophysics. Lana is also the founder and director of Saudi Arabia’s first space research mentorship initiative, the Falak Research Program, which connects students with experts from around the world to conduct cutting-edge space research. As a Rhodes Scholar, she aims to raise awareness of the importance of fundamental science and empower young researchers. Outside of academics, she enjoys oil painting, doing yoga, and caring for her striped Scottish Fold cat, Tiger.
