Biography

Katie Ameku is a senior at Coe College where she majors in mathematics and physics and minors in computer science. She researches high-density borate glasses and the conductive properties of glass. In 2023, she interned at Georgia Tech, conducting X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy on glasses. In 2024, she conducted computational material science research at the University of Pennsylvania. Katie also studies the monies used in Japanese American Internment Camps. She is the Associate Zone Councilor for Zone 11 the Society of Physics Students, representing five midwestern states. Katie has a passion for Missouri Politics and serves on the Jackson County Democratic Committee as the committeewoman for sub-district 5 blue. Additionally, she serves on the Missouri Democratic State Committee, representing Senate District 11. She is the youngest on these committees. At Oxford, she intends to pursue a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. She is interested in science policy, science communication, and addressing miscommunication in science. In her free time, she enjoys drawing and playing video games.
