Johanna Gring

Biography

Johanna Gring (she/her) recently graduated summa cum laude with a joint degree in Mathematics and Physics from École Polytechnique in Paris and is now pursuing an MSc in Mathematical Sciences. She is particularly interested in using computational methods to understand and address the climate crisis. During her exchange at McGill University, she explored applications in climate science, and completed research at the University of Cambridge on boundary layer turbulence beneath Antarctic ice shelves. Most recently, she worked as a strategy intern at the German Association for Negative Emissions (DVNE), contributing to policy analysis on carbon removal mechanisms. She hopes to continue working at the intersection of mathematics, machine learning, and climate science. Johanna's academic excellence has been recognized through the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, and the Fondation Mathématique Jacques Hadamard excellence award. Beyond her research, she is committed to inclusive leadership, having coached the German National Debating Team at the World Schools Debating Championships. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, mountaineering, and travelling.
