Biography
Bincheng Mao is a Schwarzman Scholar and Bloomberg Fellow at Tsinghua University, where he studies global affairs. He is also an incoming J.D. candidate at Harvard Law School. Bincheng is keenly focused on improving access to justice for underserved communities in rural areas.
At the Schwarzman Scholars program, his work focuses on the intellectual history of equality and civil rights, ethics in lawmaking, and the legal frameworks that underpin anti-discrimination law. He graduated from New York University, where he was a Changemaker Fellow and Excellence Scholarship recipient.
At the Gates Foundation, Bincheng interned on the Health team and helped draft philanthropic investment analyses, focusing on technologies that could reduce maternal and infant mortality in rural Africa. He has also interned at Club de Madrid during the 76th U.N. General Assembly. During this internship, he helped develop framework documents for international organizations to cooperate on reducing small arms trades in Mali. Bincheng has interviewed a range of world leaders to raise public awareness of minority inclusion and civil rights issues. He has received awards including the Schwarzbach Global Impact Award and the President’s Award for Civic Responsibility. He has also been featured on Forbes magazine's World’s 100 Most Outstanding Chinese list and the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the social entrepreneurs category. Beyond academics, Bincheng enjoys bringing joy to his audiences through stand-up performances and has been a fencing athlete for sixteen years.
At Oxford, Bincheng hopes to read for a Master of Public Policy, aiming to bridge the gap between policy and its implementation on the ground to improve access to justice for all.
