Magdalene Mawugbe

Biography

Having interacted with deaf people as a Ghanaian sign language interpreter for some time, Magdalene Mawugbe observed the struggles deaf people face in communication. She developed a deep-rooted passion for improving access to mental health care services for deaf people in Ghana and Africa at large. She recently co-authored a research publication focused on the stigma deaf people with mental health disorders face when accessing mental health care services. She looks forward to continuing her research in medical sciences at the University of Oxford and hopes to come up with practical interventions that will, in the long run, improve communication between deaf people and healthcare providers through the advancement of technology. At her leisure, she loves singing and playing her guitar.
