Tessa Haining

Biography

Tessa Haining is a senior at Harvard College, completing a joint degree in Chemistry and Comparative Literature. Tessa is interested in the intersection between science and society. At Harvard, her research has spanned molecular biology and literary theory, using concepts from literary and social studies to understand how and where we direct scientific discovery. On campus, Tessa competes for the women’s heavyweight rowing team, and serves as president and violinist for Harvard’s largest student-run orchestra. She also co-directs Harvard’s Eating Concerns Hotline and Outreach, a peer counseling service specializing in eating and body image concerns. At Oxford, she plans to study modern languages with a concentration in cultural studies, hoping to apply insights from social and cultural theory to the life sciences to better inform global science and health policy.
