Biography

Originally from Barcelona, Sílvia Casacuberta Puig is a senior at Harvard studying a joint concentration in Mathematics and Computer Science with a secondary in Philosophy and a concurrent masters in Computer Science. As a theoretical computer scientist, she is interested in data privacy, algorithmic fairness, and the responsible deployment of algorithms in society. She has conducted research at MIT, Imperial College London, ETH Zurich, IBM Research, and Harvard, resulting in several publications and talks. She has been elected to Phi Beta Kappa and named John Harvard Scholar. An advocate for women in science, she was the co-president of Gender Inclusivity in Mathematics, co-academics director of Women in Computer Science, and president of Circle of Women. She has been a teaching fellow for mathematics and computer science courses, receiving several teaching awards. Outside of academics, she plays the violin in the Mozart Society Orchestra, Harvard Baroque Orchestra, and Harvard College Opera.
