Riley Faulds

Biography

Riley Faulds is an environmental scientist in the streets and a poet in the sheets. He majored in Agricultural Science and English & Cultural Studies at The University of Western Australia, where he’s currently completing his Honours in Creative Writing. He was the 2021 Editor of Pelican Magazine and works at the environmental consultancy ArborCarbon. Riley’s core writing and research interests involve channelling his scientific and creative passions into innovative poetry and ecocriticism—some of which has been published in various of Australia’s best journals and birthday cards. He plans to study literature at Oxford, focusing on the radical potential of poetics to help reconfigure cultural conceptions of the climate crisis and inspire more effective action. Riley plays a lot of hockey and has won medals at National Championships as both player and coach. He also loves camping, hiking, running, and kitesurfing and wants to keep those up in the UK—though he’ll need a thicker wetsuit.
