Elliott Hughes

Biography

Elliott Hughes is an aspiring mathematician from Christchurch, New Zealand. Before receiving a Rhodes Scholarship, Elliott studied applied and computational mathematics at the University of Canterbury, with an emphasis on applications to biology and ecology. At Oxford he intends to continue his studies in mathematics, focusing on the development of mathematical tools for questions in physical and natural sciences. Ultimately Elliott hopes to pursue a career using mathematics to understand questions of scientific and social importance. Outside of his studies, Elliott is keenly interested in environmental issues and has been active in local and national climate change activism. He is a keen outdoorsman who enjoys hiking, running and exploring new environments.
