Biography
Throughout her studies, Bridget has been a leader and active member of the community, attributing her success to the diverse experiences she has been able to access. Since starting at university, she has been a driving force in the Women in STEM and Mathematics communities, where she strives to create supportive, inclusive and diverse communities. In 2019, as the New Colombo Plan Singapore Fellow, she studied and worked in Singapore, where her diverse experiences pushed her to fully realise the vast real world impact mathematics research can have, an experience which has shaped her aspirations to date. In her career she will work to contribute to humanity’s ability to understand and resolve the complex challenges we see around us; by designing better mathematical models, effectively communicating my work with decision-makers and working as a leader to strengthen and bring agency to communities, elevating and sharing the work of others.
Bridget is currently writing her thesis for her Master of Philosophy in Applied Mathematics and Statistics where she is building our understanding of online social networks, and the mechanisms behind malicious behaviours including fake news and misinformation. Alongside her studies she is involved in communicating her work to policy and decision makers, as a contributor to the Youth National Security Strategy, NetThing 2021 and in various speaking engagements. Bridget will continue to push both her technical knowledge and connection with policy at Oxford. While there she will work with world-class researchers to develop complex network models, and with collaborators to ensure her research has real world impact to improve our ability to understand and tackle complex problems.
