Biography

Astrid graduated from Columbia University with a double major in Political Science and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. Coming from a multicultural background from Venezuela, Sweden, and Italy and having spent much time in Venezuela, Astrid is deeply committed to issues of forced migration. She has pursued research on the impacts of Covid-19 on Venezuelan migration, worked on the integration of migrant rights in the Chilean Constitution, and most recently conducted fieldwork in Santiago, Chile for her thesis as a Mellon Mays Fellow. She has conducted research in both New York City and Chile, working with local and national non-profit organizations such as the International Rescue Committee, Venezuelans & Immigrants Aid NYC, and Servicio Jesuita a Migrantes Chile and works closely with the Columbia Institute of Latin American Studies. She is also a co-founder of Columbia's Venezuelan Student Association and involved in Columbia Catholic Ministry, Columbia Admissions, Model United Nations and her a cappella group, the Columbia Metrotones. Astrid hopes to work in migration policy research particular to the case of Venezuelan forced migrants in Latin America, the United States and internationally.
