Biography

Alyssa Mohammed is a driven student and activist at the University of the West Indies, where she received her BSc in Sociology (First Class Honours) and is currently pursuing her Postgraduate Diploma in Gender and Development. Spending her early life in Muslim women's organizing sensitized her to the intersectionality and interdisciplinary nature of issues affecting Caribbean women and motivated her to advocate passionately for the rights of all women through both activism and academia. At Oxford, she hopes to research school-based sex education in the Caribbean, with focus on the role of religious groups in sex education implementation. She hopes this research will contribute to comprehensive sex education being implemented regionally, as she views this as a cornerstone issue in the fight for gender equality and women's socioeconomic autonomy. In her downtime, she enjoys learning new languages, crochet and social-commentary style documentaries.
