Abigail Isaac

Biography

Abigail completed her BA in Political Science and Economics at the University of Alberta, where her thesis explored the nexus of gender justice, migrant justice, and climate justice. Her professional aspirations are rooted in a commitment to reimagining the protections afforded to those most marginalized in the international asylum system. A former organizer with Black Lives Matter, student governance representative, and co-founder of two gender equity-seeking organizations, Abigail’s work has brought her across Canada and to the United Nations. Her background also includes researching and publishing work on barriers to inclusion for racialized immigrants and refugees seeking work in Canada. Most recently, she spent time at the northern French border addressing the needs of asylum-seekers, and is now heading back home to Ethiopia to research gendered barriers to economic inclusion. At Oxford, Abigail intends to study Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Refugee and Forced Migration Studies.
