Kimathi Muiruri

Biography

Kimathi Muiruri is an environmental justice and energy transition researcher, and a historian of Africa. Born and raised in Pickering, Ontario, he graduated in May 2021 with highest distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) with degrees in history and environmental studies. At UNC, he was a Morehead-Cain Scholar, Phi Beta Kappa, a published poet, and a player for the UNC Men’s Rugby Club. After leaving UNC, he worked as a Program Associate at the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, a joint center of Columbia Law School and The Earth Institute at Columbia University, where he supported research and high-level stakeholder engagement to enhance human rights and environmental sustainability agendas for international land-based investment. He is currently reading for the Master of Public Policy at Blavatnik School of Government as a member of Jesus College.
