Biography

Alaa is a junior doctor, recently obtaining a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with honours from the University of Khartoum. She is passionate about bridging inequities in access to health systematically through health workforce development. In addition to leading and participating in many medical missions to improve access to health services in distant and underserved communities in Sudan, Alaa served as the Liaison Officer for Medical Education Issues at the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA) representing 1.3million medical students globally, authoring several youth policies and delivering many presentations on key health workforce agenda. She also served as an executive board member at the World Federation for Medical Education, the Association for Medical Education in Europe and a steering committee member at the WHO Global Health Workforce Network (GHWN) Youth Hub.

At Oxford, she plans to study the nexus between health, education, economics and policy aiming to build an informed and resilient health workforce capacity for Sudan, Africa and globally thereby promoting pandemic preparedness and response, ultimately leading the walk towards Health for All.

Alaa enjoys nature, practices yoga, and reads poetry and non-fiction avidly.
