Biography

Tianyi is currently a Jardine Scholar reading for an MPhil in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge. She received her bachelor's degree with honors in International Politics from Fudan University. Graduating first in her department, she twice received the National Scholarship. Her current research examines state-business relationships in China-Africa electricity investment. She has also investigated economic development in China and paralleled experience transfer at the University of California Berkeley and at Fudan University. She facilitated policy consultation on China-Africa cooperation and aid at the China-Africa Development Fund and at the Ministry of Commerce in China. She is currently a co-director of the TanzaniaCAN project, supporting small and mid-sized enterprises in Dar-Es-Salaam. She was a program manager of the 2018 Youth Innovation Competition on Global Governance. At Oxford, Tianyi plans to pursue a DPhil in International Development and aspires to be a researcher and advocate of inclusive China-Africa cooperation. To improve institutional design in China-Africa development, she hopes to reshape the current understanding of China's international footprint by offering nuanced analyses.
