Biography

Marissa is from Petrolia, Ontario, Canada. From 2017-2021, she studied engineering at the University of Iowa while competing in NCAA D1 athletics. After becoming involved in undergraduate research as a National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenges Scholar, she decided to specialise in biomedical/cellular engineering. Upon receiving the Rhodes Scholarship in 2021, Marissa completed the MSc in Neuroscience and has since extended her projects through the DPhil in Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics. Marissa is a part of the Molnar, Vyazovskyi, Peirson, and Lerch labs where she is characterising motor degeneration resulting from chronic genetic manipulations do deep cortical layers of the brain. Her work involves multimodal imaging (MRI), histology, image analysis, behaviour, and hardware/software development.
