Chishimba Kasanga

Biography

Chishimba “Chichi” Kasanga is reading for a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Geography and the Environment at the School of Geography and the Environment at Oxford University. She holds an MSc in Social Science of the Internet from the Oxford Internet Institute. Her DPhil research investigates how the body is used as a tool and strategy for feminist emancipation, she focuses on how Zambian women have creatively used their bodies to challenge patriarchy.

As a Beit Scholar, Chishimba pursued an MA in Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University, graduating with distinction in 2021. Before Rhodes University, Chishimba was a Gender Coordinator at Lubuto Library Partners. She advocated for comprehensive sexual reproductive health rights education and gender equity as part of the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Her research interests are Feminist studies, African Feminism(s), gender, digital media activism and Internet research.
