Biography
Andrew is a medical student from the University of Cape Town who is currently taking a year out of his medical studies to complete a BMedSci Honours degree, completing research in Neuroscience. During this Honours year, his research focus has been on paediatric tuberculous meningitis and traumatic brain injury. His fascination for the brain and the nervous system was sparked by illness in his final year of schooling when he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome – a rare autoimmune disorder of the peripheral nervous system. He is a committee member of UCT’s Cortex Club and is passionate about the application of high-quality research in Neuroscience to inform better clinical practice in a South African healthcare sector burdened with a unique neurological disease profile.
