Biography

Abbie is a Belizean activist and social justice advocate focused on human rights and social policy in the Caribbean. In 2020, she was selected as a Rhodes Scholar and completed an MPhil in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Oxford. Her research examines structural violence and the ways in which post-colonial conditions shape access to rights and lived experiences.

She currently serves as Project Coordinator and Lead Researcher at the University of Belize, where she works on an EU-funded human rights project. Her work brings together academic research and policy engagement, with an emphasis on developing grounded, rights-based approaches to social challenges in Belize and the wider Caribbean.

Abbie is particularly interested in how research can inform more equitable systems and institutions, especially for women, children, and marginalized communities. She remains committed to contributing to regional development through work that bridges critical scholarship and practical impact.
