Biography
Yali Peng is an Associate Professor of Law at Renmin University of China, where she teaches and researches at the intersection of criminal law, criminology, and law and economics. Professor Peng possesses a distinguished academic background, having earned a J.S.D. and an LL.M. from the University of Chicago Law School, an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and dual bachelor's degrees in Law and Business Administration from Tsinghua University, graduating first in her class with highest honors. Her scholarly work heavily emphasizes empirical research methods to explore Chinese legal systems, frontline enforcement realities, and punishment theory.
A prolific researcher, Professor Peng has published extensively in prominent peer-reviewed journals such as Behavioral Sciences & the Law, The China Review, and the Chinese Journal of Law. She currently serves as a Principal Investigator for major research initiatives, including projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation of China, and holds significant professional roles such as Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne and Hearing Officer for China's Supreme People's Procuratorate. Admitted to practice law in both New York State and the PRC, Professor Peng is also a legal technology innovator, having founded and developed JuriPulse, an AI-powered legal research platform utilizing retrieval-augmented generation for Chinese legal scholarship.
