Biography
Dr Dineo Mya Serame is a biomedical engineer from Botswana whose research focuses on developing computational methods to analyse complex clinical data and improve patient care. She completed a DPhil in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oxford, where she used biomedical signal processing, machine learning and computer vision to develop non-contact methods for detecting cessation of breathing in pre-term infants.
Her research interests include longitudinal and multimodal clinical data analysis, with a long-term interest in applying computational methods to severe mental illness and improving patient stratification, monitoring and clinical decision-making. Beyond research, Dineo is passionate about mental health advocacy, education and widening access to opportunity. She has spoken publicly about mental health and stigma, including through TEDx, contributed to medical education from a patient perspective, and founded a scholarship and mentoring initiative supporting disadvantaged secondary-school students in Botswana.
