Biography

Jelani Munroe, Kingston, graduated from Stanford University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics and in Public Policy, concentrating in Development and Growth Policies. He also graduated with interdisciplinary honors in Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law. His research focuses on political economy: specifically, the implications of macroeconomic policy on incumbent political strategy in Jamaica's general elections. A former policy intern at the Embassy of Jamaica in the United States, Jelani currently leads an education non-profit that focuses on student life & advocacy grants and entrepreneurship education at Stanford. At Oxford, he plans to read for a MPhil in Development Studies in order to explore pathways for nation building within Jamaica and the broader Caribbean. He also hopes to continue pursuing vocal music and musical theater performance.
