Biography
Caitlin is a lawyer and researcher specialising in constitutional, criminal, and international human rights law. She is deeply committed to using law as a tool to empower marginalized groups.
She completed a BA in Human Rights and Law at Carleton University, an exchange fellowship in Washington D.C. as a Fulbright Killam Fellow, and an intensive program at The Hague Academy of International Law. At the University of Oxford, she pursued an MPhil and DPhil in Law focusing on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and its notwithstanding clause. Since returning from Oxford, she obtained a JD at the University of Toronto, where she acted as Co-Editor-in-Chief of their Law Review and then clerked at the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
She has published articles and a book with the Supreme Court Law Review, University of British Columbia Law Review, University of Toronto Press, Dalhousie Law Journal, Constitutional Forum, and the Journal of Law & Equality, among others. Her writing has also been cited by the Supreme Court of Canada.
She is deeply committed to improving access to justice and advancing dignity and equality for all. In 2022, she received the Governor General's Persons Award for outstanding contributions to gender equality in Canada.
