Biography
Ellen completed a Bachelor of Philosophy (Science) (Honours) majoring in chemistry with a minor in applied mathematics. Ellen's research interests lie in marine biogeochemistry and in her honours thesis described a new high precision method to track calcium carbonate cycling in the Southern Ocean. During her degree, Ellen was involved in science communication and teaching at ANU and in the Canberra community. She was also involved in the writing of the inaugural ANU Science Revue, a musical comedy show that dealt with issues of research funding and gender inequality in the sciences. Ellen is a passionate advocate for the transition to low-carbon economies and her DPhil research will be addressing fundamental questions of the effect of carbon dioxide emissions on ocean chemistry and biology.
