Biography

Katherine E. Warren graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with highest honors in Anthropology and was named a Truman Scholar. She worked in federal health policy at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services before serving as Special Assistant to the Commissioner of Health at the Baltimore City Health Department during the city's early response to the opioid epidemic. As a Rhodes Scholar, she earned an M.Phil. in Medical Anthropology at Oxford and later completed an M.D. and Ph.D. at Harvard. Supported by fellowships from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the Wenner-Gren Foundation, her research examined the opioid epidemic, chronic pain, and U.S. death reporting across pandemics. She is now training as a physician-scientist at the University of Washington, where she plans to combine social science and addiction medicine to improve primary care.
