Karen Braun-Munzinger

Biography

Karen Braun-Munzinger is currently responsible for Resolution Policy Development and Coordination at the Single Resolution Board, which is the central resolution authority within the Banking Union. She joined the SRB from the Deutsche Bundesbank, where she served as Deputy Director General for Banking and Financial Supervision since 2021. Roles included banking structural reform and capital at the Bank of England and heading financial regulation and policy at the European Central Bank.

She started her career at the UK’s HM Treasury, where she worked on responding to the global financial crisis. This experience led her to specialise in financial regulation and financial stability to ensure that, going forward, authorities and the financial system would be in a much better place to deal with shocks.

Karen holds an M.Sc. in Economics from Birkbeck College and a D.Phil. in Physics from the University of Oxford.
