Guido Schmidt-Traub

Biography

Guido Schmidt-Traub studied economics at the University of Oxford. He later completed a Ph.D. in Economics at Wageningen University and holds a Master’s degree in physical chemistry from FU Berlin.

Guido is a Partner at Systemiq, where he leads work on climate and nature finance, resilience and adaptation, and economic transformation aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. He served as Managing Partner from 2021 to 2024 and advises governments, financial institutions, and companies on sustainable development strategies.

Previously, Guido was the founding Executive Director of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, where he helped advance the SDGs and build a global network of research institutions and practitioners. Earlier in his career, he served as CEO of CDC Climate Asset Management, Partner at South Pole Carbon Asset Management, and held senior roles with the UN Millennium Project and UNDP, advising governments on development and financing frameworks.

Guido serves on several nonprofit and advisory boards and has contributed extensively to international work on sustainable development, climate policy, and sustainable finance. He lives in Paris.
