Biography

Frank studied History, English and Education at Berlin and Oxford (Staatsexamen, 1996) before embarking on doctoral research in Modern History at Merton College in 1996. Upon completion of his DPhil in 1996, he took up a Junior Research Fellowship at University College Oxford and then moved on to the University of St Andrews for a lectureship in Modern History in 2002. Promoted to Senior Lecturer and Professor, he has worked mainly on the political history of 19th-century Europe, with a focus on constitutional monarchy. In addition to having led an AHRC-funded research project on succession in 19th-century monarchies, he has also served in different senior management positions as Dean, Provost and Assistant Vice-Principal. He is currently the St Andrews “Vertrauensdozent” for the “Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes”.
