In our May event, Professor Devi Sridhar (Florida & Wolfson 2003) in conversation with Isabella Turilli (Maryland/DC & Lincoln 2023) will discuss her book How Not to Die (Too Soon): The Lies We’ve Been Sold and the Policies That Can Save Us.
Devi is a writer, broadcaster and world-leading expert in public health and wellbeing. She is Professor and Chair of Global Public Health at the University of Edinburgh and has advised the WHO, UNICEF, UNESCO and the Scottish, UK and German governments. Devi appears regularly on ITV and Channel 4 News, has a weekly column in the Guardian, tweets to over 300,000 followers, and recently became a certified Level 3 Personal Trainer. Her first book, Preventable, was a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week and a Sunday Times bestseller.
Isabella is a graduate student pursuing an MPhil in International Relations. Previously, she worked as a research associate for global health, economics, and development at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). Prior to joining CFR, Turilli conducted and published research with the Center for Global Health Science and Security, the Bansal Lab, and as a Fellow with the Global Irish Studies Initiative. She also served extensively as an emergency medical technician (EMT) in the District of Columbia, and worked as an EMT instructor and quality improvement officer with Georgetown EMS and the DC Department of Health. Turilli graduated with a bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, and International Affairs with a focus on global health policy and a Certificate in Diplomatic Studies from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
