Description

Blue Planet 2 and beyond- raising environmental awareness through the medium of TV with BBC producer, Mark Brownlow

Part of the Lifelong Fellowship portfolio, The Film Fora series aims to leverage the creativity and intellectual firepower of a global community to develop actionable systemic change ideas that could help respond to a world in crisis. If you’re interested in getting involved, please reach out to Georgie Thurston at georgie.thurston@rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk

For our first event, we are pleased to invite you to take part in a conversation with BBC 's Mark Brownlow, producer of Blue Planet 2 and Frozen Planet 2. Mark will show us some behind the scenes footage from the series as well as talking about environmental awareness raised from the show.

Nature documentaries can be more than just entertainment, they can affect change. Coined ‘The Blue Planet 2’ effect, BP2 not only introduced the wonders of the underwater world to over half a billion people but it was also credited in galvanising an international movement around ocean plastics. In Mark’s new landmark wildlife television series ‘Frozen Planet 2’, climate change is central to its editorial; but will it capture the audience’s attention, even elicit behavioural change? Gain a ringside seat into the inner workings and thinking behind two of the biggest and most influential wildlife series of our time.

Before attending this event, we strongly encourage you to watch the Blue Planet 2 series. This can be found on Amazon Prime, BBC iPlayer, google play and YouTube. If you are in the UK, you will be able to watch Frozen Planet 2 on BBC iPlayer from September 11th.

This session will be moderated by Laura Nelson (Massachusetts & New College 2011), who will facilitate an audience Q&A after Mark's presentation. Bring your questions about the world of the Blue and Frozen planet documentaries.
