Alexandra Cardoso Pinto

Biography

Alexandra Cardoso Pinto is a medical doctor and academic, trained in Medicine and Global Health at Imperial College London, where she graduated with distinction. At Oxford, she will pursue an MSc in Global Health with Epidemiology, building on her interests at the intersection of clinical practice, global child health, infectious diseases, and medical education. Her academic work spans global health, paediatric and adolescent infectious diseases, refugee and migrant health, and educational innovation, with a strong emphasis on equity, ethics, and partnership with communities. She has led and contributed to research published in journals including The Lancet Global Health, BMJ, PLOS Global Public Health, and BMC Medical Education, and has presented her work at national and international conferences. Alongside research, she is involved in curriculum development and teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, particularly in global health, primary care, sustainability, and reflective practice. A central theme of her work is translating research into meaningful change. This has included influencing journal policy on the ethical use of imagery, redesigning medical curricula to engage with power, positionality, and sustainability, and co-developing models of care for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children that integrate physical, mental, and social health. She is particularly interested in participatory, ethically grounded approaches that centre lived experience and foster more equitable global health partnerships.
