Frances Wright

Biography

Frances is an artist and broadcaster from Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington. She is completing a conjoint Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland / Te Waka TÅ«hura, Elam School of Fine Arts and Design. Frances' predominately image-based practice centres on the poetic interplay between image, text, and history and the avenues art offers for reconciling troubling histories and imagining hopeful futures. At Oxford, Frances aims to continue her studies in the fields of fine art and history of art and visual culture. This will enable her to invest in and expand the criticality of her work in an international setting while continuing to analyse and synthesise the complexity of contemporary visual culture. Alongside her studies, Frances founded and hosts 'Various Artists', the arts hour on New Zealand's largest independent radio station, 95bFM. She also established and is president of the Fine Arts Students' Association at the Elam School of Fine Arts and Design. Frances is also a keen musician, skier, hiker, and gardener.
