Biography

David is an aspiring political economist who is interested in industrial development and the interactions between public policy and development. Some of his research interests include the political economy of small island developing states (SIDs) and the role that governments play in facilitating private sector development. David graduated from the University of the West Indies, Mona in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Public Policy and Management (first class honours). That same year, he was selected as Valedictorian for the Faculty of Social Sciences. David also received an MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge. There he investigated the impact of participatory decision making and monitoring on the management of fisheries around Lake Victoria. Prior to enrolling at Cambridge, David did a four-year stint in journalism where he was a newsreporter and columnist for the Jamaica Gleaner, the Caribbean's largest newspaper. Topics he wrote on ranged from education to public sector reform, industrial development, the labour market amongst other issues. He is currently enrolled in the MPhil in Development Studies where his research will examine the factors that have contributed to the absence of industrial development in Jamaica.
