Zehra Naqvi

Biography

Zehra Naqvi is an award-winning writer and educator. She writes fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. She is the author of  The Knot of My Tongue: Poems and Prose  (McClelland & Stewart, Penguin Random House Canada 2024), which was shortlisted for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize, Pat Lowther Memorial Award, Raymond Souster Award, and the George Ryga Award for Social Awareness in Literature. She has written and edited for publications internationally, and is a 2021 recipient of the RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers. Her work has been commissioned by Amnesty International Canada and UNHCR Canada, and has been featured on CBC Radio, Global News TV, and the Toronto Star. She has served as a juror for The Writers' Trust of Canada, and has guest lectured at Stanford University, University of Victoria, and Queen's University. She holds a BA Honours in English and Creative Writing from UBC and MSc degrees in Migration Studies and Social Anthropology from Oxford University.
