Michael Chen

Biography

Originally from Boulder, Colorado, Michael is pursuing an MD-PhD in the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program. He majored in Chemistry as an undergraduate at Stanford. In Oxford, he read for the MSc in Global Health and the MPP. For his PhD, Michael studied the evolution of mitochondria in the laboratory of Dr. Vamsi Mootha, which revealed insights on the mysterious origins of mitochondria and identified drug targets for global parasitic diseases such as malaria. In his spare time, Michael enjoys the outdoors, marathon running, playing the violin for patients and veterans, growing spicy peppers, and science fiction.
