Eleven Scholars-Elect (2025) from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia were treated to a wonderful Bon Voyage weekend in Cape Town. Festivities commenced on Friday evening with a dinner hosted by John Roome (SACS & LMH 1983), the deputy national secretary for the Global Scholarships, in honour of the new cohort. John was a gracious and generous host; and he and fellow Scholars Alum, engaged warmly with the new Scholars, regaling them with anecdotes about their time in Oxford.
The SAARS Bon Voyage and Alumni Conference, held on Saturday, introduced the new Scholars to alumni from across seven decades (from 1950s to present). The programme had a literary focus, featuring inspiring Scholar authors and an experienced publisher. Bon Voyage 2025 was a great community builder, with many Scholars Alumni attending with their partners and young children in tow. The event was an enriching, collegial and inclusive gathering of the Scholar community and greatly enjoyed by all. Further information is available here.
